TRC's New Kit Arrives Le Beau Jersey Nouveau est arrivé!Date posted: 07 November 2008 Dear All, My apologies to the Union Interprofessional des Vins de Beaujolais, but I am thrilled to announce that, from TRC's perspective at least, Le Beau Jersey Nouveau est arrivé! It is amazing to realise that, just weeks before, these new shirts, shorts and socks were a cluster of e-mails ripening in Susan Peters Berg's mailbox. But by expeditiously collecting and harvesting many thoughts and suggestions on design, she has rapidly fermented these plans into a firm order to the kit supplier, and the end result is the crisp and fresh elixir that is... Tanglin Rugby Club's new playing kit.
What's even more exciting is that we won't be waiting until midnight on the third Thursday of November to release this exciting product. The new kit will be on sale at the Operations Tent from this Sunday (9th November) at training so please bring your cash and cheque books. We plan to publicly "unveil" the new kit at the Polo Club tournament on 29-30th November, which is only a few weeks away so please get kitted up as soon as you can...
Thanks and brgds/Mark The Clifford Chance Amazons Challenge Saturday, 13th September 2008Date posted: 15 September 2008 Last weekend, TRC hosted our first girls touch rugby tournament - The Clifford Chance Amazons Challenge. Teams from TRC, Anglo Chinese School, Centaurs RFC, Overseas Family School, Raffles Junior College, and UWC competed across two age groups - U.17 and U.12. Despite the muddy conditions (very good for the complexion, was the general consensus), the tournament was a huge success and thoroughly enjoyed by both competitors and spectators alike. TRC's Senior Koogaas were the eventual winners in the U.17s category after an exciting final against OFS that went to "sudden death", and the Junior Koogaas were runners up in the U.12s category. Once again, this fantastic tournament was the result of much hard work by a dedicated group of people co-ordinated by Aidan Doyle, which resulted in a lot and happy and accomplished children. TRC is extremely grateful to Clifford Chance who so generously supported the event. Tanglin Rugby Club Car decals confirmed

TRC Lightning Policy
Date posted: 27 February 2008 TRC introduces draft lightning policy.
1. Good Practice
Parents of all children attending TRC training sessions are encouraged to follow the following good practice:
TRC encourages parents of children attending training to remain at the training ground and accompany their child / children for the duration of the training session (or tournament). If this is not possible, the parents should either nominate a temporary guardian, who is remaining at the training ground, notify - and secure approval from - an Age Group Coach, Team Manager, or TRC Officer at the Operations Tent, of their child’s temporary guardian prior to leaving the training (tournament) site. Failing this, the parent should notify the Age Group Coach, Team Manager, and/or TRC Officer at the Operations Tent prior to leaving the training (tournament) site of their child’s unaccompanied presence. The parent should leave a telephone contact number with the personnel at the Operations Tent in either circumstance.
2. Lightening – Definition
The occurrence of lightening shall be defined as any of the following:
a) A visual sighting by any observer of a lightening bolt at any distance;
b) The sound of a roll of thunder;
c) An alarm from a lightening warning machine being triggered;
d) The decision of an Officer of the Club (e.g. President, Secretary, Age Group Coach, Operations Committee Member) of a high lightening risk irrespective of whether any physical lightening has been observed.
The all clear shall be given at the discretion of the afore-mentioned Officer no sooner than 30 minutes after the previous lightening event as defined above.
A cancellation of training or tournament notice can be given at the discretion of the afore-mentioned Club Officer at any time after a lightening even has occurred depending upon weather conditions.
3. Procedure In The Event Of Lightening
In the event of lightening the observer shall immediately notify the personnel at the Operations Tent. The lightening event shall then be communicated to coaches, team managers and other Officers of the Club by means of an air horn blast, repeated whistle blows, and/or verbally.
Age Group / Team Coaches / Managers shall then escort all their players initially to the Operations Tent, where accompanying parents will be asked to take their children to shelter in their vehicles or within the Turf City buildings. Unaccompanied children will be asked to follow their Coaches to the shelter of Turf City as quickly as is reasonably possible, in an orderly and safe manner, to await either the "all-clear" or collection by their parent(s) or temporary guardian after a cancellation notice is issued.
The Bintang Rugby Club International Rugby 10’s - 16th & 17th February 2008 - U.12s Match Report Played 8 - Won 3 / Lost 5Date posted: 23 February 2008 Mark Nelligan reporting...
Most would interprete the above as a modest performance, perhaps even disappointing.
Consider the context...
- A squad of 11 boys, all from TRC's U.11s age group, with the exception of 3 from the U.12s;
- Never played together until the morning of Saturday 16th;
- The opposition were, in the majority, U.12s, with 1 or 2 U.13s, with large squads (i.e. subs available);
- 2 of the 5 matches lost were very close and which we were well within our abilities to win.
The match against ISCI of Jakarta (our 2nd match) was a match of 2 halves - in the first we went to LaLa-land and and subsequently trailed 0-2 at the break; then we woke up and what glorious, gutsy rugby we played to eventually go down 2-3. The overriding theme for our last match against Bintang B of KL in the Plate league was that of fatigue; the lack of subs was taking its toll and the team which we had beaten the day proved victorious by just one try.
OK, so a scratch team of predominantly 10 year olds, played 8 matches, won 3, perhaps should have won another 2, but lost 3 against 11 year olds (and some). "So what?", one might ask. There was a defining moment last Sunday when our U.11s did something by which we, as parents, were all surprised but which I believe epitomises the spirit of our fledgling club.
Tired, and having been soundly beaten by two well-drilled teams (Abu Dhabi RFC and ACS of Singapore) on the second day, the choice was given to our boys to make a decision either to gracefully exit or participate in the Plate league, to play against 2 teams whom we had admittedly beaten the day before, but because of fatigue and injuries, would now be formidable opponents.
They huddled and decided... TO PLAY ON!!! And what a game! The fact that we won is immaterial... How the boys played! Those of us who were present were privilidged to witness a game full of character.
Whether it be Joe's transformation from team clown to solid prop, or Will's versatility playing hooker one moment and then srum-half the next, Andrew's tenacity at the rucks and mauls, Dominic always being first at the breakdown, Daniel's unrelenting support, Alfie's breaks from the back of the rucks, Riordan's remarkable leadership, Josh's, Marcus' and Jack's crunching cover tackles, the boys played beyond themselves. And there was New-boy Connor, thrown into the lion's den from which most young lads would have shied away; but not our Connor.
This performance was the best I've seen of collective team spirit overcoming adversity, while playing beautiful rugby.
Over the weekend, our TRC U.8s were victorious, the U.9s (playing in the U.10s age group won the Plate), and the U.10s were unbeaten to take their age-group Cup. Outstanding results by any measure for the respective boys and the Club. But our U.11s and their 3 U.12s colleagues were winners in the truest sense of the word and did all of us parents, and their Club, proud. Well done boys! They were TRC... Total Rugby Children!
The squad -
Ford, Will (hooker, and subtitute scrumhalf)
Braithwaite, Andrew (prop)
Byles, Jack (wing, and substitute hooker)
Kidd, Connor (wing)
Nelligan, Alfie (scrum half)
Parsons, Daniel (2nd row)
Reeves, Dominic (2nd row)
Sailes, Riordan (fly half)
Smith, Josh (centre)
Turnbull, Joe (prop)
Wright, Marcus (wing)
